Class Response: January 14, 2009

Today we dove into the philosophies of Karl Marx. The discussion led to many personal convictions, especially when the term commodity fetishism was defined. I don't give much second thought to my consumption of goods and services which results in me objectifying individuals that contribute to the production of some of the things I wear. But I wonder how realistic it is to understand the origins of every product I consume and attempt to find alternatives. It commodity fetishism completely avoidable? How can I more responsible in my consumption of goods without spending an enormous amounts of time researching?
