“Seconds please!”
“Seconds? Finish your firsts!”
We want seconds without finishing our firsts!
Aren’t we all desiring more? More money, more time, more attention, more love, more things, more opportunities, more experiences, more gifts, more spirituality?
Many of us live spiritually frustrated lives because we want more. I see myself as well as others continuing to seek out more in their lives, we want more. Some of these things may be new spiritual experiences, new revelations, profound truths, new gifts, revival, or jump on the next bandwagon of the next ‘movement’. These desires aren’t evil or wrong. I think we should continue to seek and hunger for more, but we get frustrated because many times when we think we have quenched our thirsts or filled our hunger it lasts only for so long. What happens next is a life-long quest to continue to find the next thing.
Many of us seek ‘re’vival without ‘vival’, new revelations without understanding existing revelation, new gifts but unfaithful with their gifts, and so on.
We are asking for seconds when there is a feast already in front of us that hasn’t even been touched. This may sound harsh but this many of us: Standing at the foot of the cross, looking up at Jesus saying, “Is this it? I want more?”
In Jesus alone our thirst and hunger can be satisfied. (John 4:13, John 6:27). For many of us we have not tasted the eternal water or eternal bread. Have taste, feast in it, then ask for more, but you will surprisingly find out you don't need Seconds.
Jesus Christ is everything!
